Abstract
D5.6 “Recommendations for the Set-up of Open Science and Research Data Management Thematic Trainings" outlines a strategic framework for integrating Open Science (OS) and FAIR Research Data Management (RDM) practices into research workflows. Developed under the Skills4EOSC project, the report provides recommendations for designing effective, tailored training programmes. It is intended for Competence Centres, six thematic communities and external training providers. The recommendations stem from an iterative co-creation process, including workshops, pilot training activities, and train-the-trainers sessions and aim to foster collaboration between researchers, infrastructures, and experts. The report also identifies challenges and proposes solutions for the long-term sustainability of OS/RDM training within the European research ecosystem.

Abstract
Initiated by the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) in 2012, the movement for research assessment reform has been steadily advancing for over a decade. Abstract
Purpose. This study focuses on developing research assessment criteria for the Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) through the GraspOS project. The aim is to reform traditional evaluation methods that rely heavily on bibliometric indicators and to produce recommendations tailored to the SSH community, addressing the limitations of current practices that predominantly emphasise quantitative metrics. Approach/methodology/design. This study presents outcomes from three workshops with participants from various SSH backgrounds. The workshops facilitated discussions on values-driven assessment, output diversity, and the integration of qualitative indicators. The data collected were analysed using the deductive method, with a priori codes established. Findings. The analysis revealed consensus on the need for a more inclusive evaluation framework that recognises diverse outputs beyond traditional journal articles. Participants emphasised the importance of qualitative measures, such as peer review, and proposed using narrative CVs to better reflect individual contributions. Research limitations. The study was conducted within a specific context of the Responsible Research Assessment (RRA) movement and the GraspOS project, which may not fully represent the broader SSH landscape. Generalisation to all SSH disciplines is not possible. Practical implications. The study provides recommendations for formulating generic research assessment criteria as suggested by SSH scholars. Originality value. This work provides valuable insights into developing more equitable and effective assessment practices in academia for the SSH community.

Abstract
The FAIR Implementation workshop “Examples of national initiatives for FAIR: Greece and the Netherlands”, part of the second running of the FAIR-IMPACT support programme for National Level Initiatives, was delivered on 29 November 2024. Two keynote speakers, Marta Teperek - Programme Leader for FAIR Data Open Science NL organisation and Fotis Mystakopoulos - Project Policy Officer - OPERAS RI, presented how Greece and the Netherlands are advancing FAIR principles at the national level. The Netherlands approach supports FAIR implementation through policy development, infrastructure funding, and national training programs, all states in the Dutch national Open Science programme. Greece to guide FAIR adoption developed the National Plan for Open Science and is focusing on strengthening research infrastructures, fostering training programs, and engaging in European collaborations like EOSC and Skills4EOSC.

Abstract
Erratum: The previous version contained an incorrect PDF. This version includes the correct poster. This poster presents the approach, tools, and key outcomes of the Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) Pilot within the GraspOS project, which focuses on reforming research assessment. The central theme is the importance of community involvement and co-creation in defining what should be valued in SSH research evaluation. Guided by the SCOPE Framework’s principle “Evaluate with the evaluated,” the pilot engaged the SSH community through a Community of Practice and a series of consultation and validation workshops. Tools and Activities: The pilot applied the SCOPE Framework and community-driven approaches including workshops, evaluation sessions, and a validation event. Co-creation Process: A key element was the collaborative evaluation of a Narrative CV template adapted for SSH disciplines. Based on the Royal Society’s model, this version was refined to ensure fair recognition of diverse outputs, activities, and Open Science contributions. Key Outcomes: The SSH Pilot produced: Community-validated guidance and recommendations A robust framework outlining priorities for SSH research assessment Greater understanding of how to leverage open infrastructures for responsible and Open Science-aware evaluation Overall, the pilot aimed to give the SSH community a real voice and ownership in shaping the future of research assessment reform.

Executive Summary: Deliverable D5.5 reports on the first phase of researcher engagement carried out under Task 5.3 of the ALMASI project, covering the period from January 2025 to June 2026. The task was designed as a two-phase effort: the first eighteen months were dedicated to establishing the infrastructure and relationships needed for sustained engagement, while the remaining period will be dedicated to active delivery. This report discusses the outputs of the first phase. Engagement framework established By the end of 2025, the following framework was put in place to serve the delivery phase: Workstream 1: The ALMASI Ambassador Programme was designed and launched through an open call running from 17 November 2025 to 15 January 2026. Workstream 2: The Discussion Series on Scholar-led Publishing was introduced with its first event, Reclaiming Knowledge: Why Diamond Open Access Matters, delivered on 11 December 2025 in co-operation with the Global Young Academy. A cross-work-package stakeholder mapping exercise was developed, to support both pathways by tracking opportunities for partnerships with researcher communities, infrastructure providers, and policy actors. Reach and cohort composition The response to both workstreams (the Ambassador programme and the Discussion Series) exceeded initial expectations and required substantive adaptations to the programme's design: The ALMASI Ambassador Programme attracted 155 applications from more than thirty countries and confirmed 114 ambassadors. Of these, 61 became active participants over the course of seven launch sessions held in March 2026. The Ambassador cohort was geographically weighted toward Africa, although there was representation in each of the three core ALMASI regions. Conversion rates from application to active participation were higher in Europe and Latin America than in Africa, partially offsetting the imbalance observed at the application stage. Design adaptations included shifting from competitive selection to an expression-of-interest framework, moving from one-to-one to group-based mentoring, and the introduction of a screening step in the application process. The first webinar reached 255 registrations with a geographic mix spanning Europe, Africa, Latin America, and a smaller cohort from North America and Asia, and a professional audience dominated by library and information services staff, researchers and academics, and publishing and editorial professionals. The second webinar, held on 11 June 2026 on the Publish-Review-Curate model, drew 414 registrations, with Europe and Latin America each accounting for just over a third of registrations and a substantial African contingent. Added value for researchers and publishers Drawing on the talking points articulated during the first webinar and aligned with the work of Deliverable D5.2, the report synthesises the added value of Diamond Open Access around the following themes: For researchers: access without financial barriers; rights retention and author control; equity and participation in global science; and alignment with the public mission of research. For publishers and advocates: defining Diamond Open Access through governance and ownership rather than fees alone; advocating for research assessment reform as inseparable from Diamond Open Access; pursuing rights retention at the institutional and national level; investing in shared infrastructure, training, and quality; and communicating clearly about sustainability to secure coordinated funding. Moving forward Over the next phase of the project (M18–M36), the focus will be on delivery across both workstreams: Ambassadors will engage in local and regional events, mentoring sessions, translation and co-authorship, glossary work, and advocacy through peer communication. The Discussion Series will continue beyond the second webinar, with future themes shaped by the literature on researcher engagement and by priorities surfacing within researcher communities, including peer review platforms and the role of artificial intelligence in scholarly communication. In collaboration with Task 3.1, ambassadors will contribute to sprints by developing and reviewing training materials, extending their role from outreach to active co-creation of ALMASI's educational outputs. The final report, D5.10, due in month thirty-six, will assess the outcomes of this delivery phase against the engagement targets to which Task 5.3 contributes.

This virtual event, hosted by FAIR-IMPACT, was a collaborative effort co-organised with GRNET, OPERAS, OpenAIRE, the Athena Research Center, HEAL-Link, and the University Library of Patras. The program highlighted national-level initiatives in Greece, aiming to bridge the gap between research institutes and universities on Open Science and FAIR practices. Abstract
Graduation talk delivered for the Open Life Science (OLS) Nebula cohort, presenting reflections on Open Science practice in the Greek research landscape. The talk is structured around two intersecting levels of Open Science adoption. At the individual level, it considers how Open Science principles can be applied to qualitative doctoral research, including planning an "Open by Design" PhD and handling the tension between data sharing and participant privacy, a constraint qualitative interviews share with health data. At the community level, it examines how Open Science is perceived by Greek colleagues, which practices a nascent community should adopt first, and how local capacity can be aligned with international growth. The presentation closes with lessons learned across the OLS programme, including the observation that equity in Open Science is a matter of resource rather than geography alone, and that the increasing ease of producing code with large language models raises rather than lowers the need for careful attention to provenance, licensing, and citation practice. Planned next steps include developing Open Science training within Open Science Community Athens and a possible bibliographic assessment of Open Science practice adoption in Greece. Abstract This document presents guidance and recommendations for responsible research assessment in the Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH), drawing on lessons learned from the SSH pilot conducted within the GraspOS Horizon Europe project (2023-2025). Led by OPERAS Research Infrastructure, the pilot engaged diverse stakeholders through a Community of Practice and validation workshops to develop Open Science-aware assessment approaches responsive to SSH particularities. The document is structured in two parts. Part 1 offers four key guidelines for shaping effective assessment in SSH: involving the community in assessment design; considering values and context before selecting metrics; valuing Open Science practices and diverse outputs; and prioritising qualitative assessment, particularly peer review and narrative CVs. Part 2 provides specific recommendations aligned with the SCOPE Framework for research evaluation, tailoring each step, Start with values, Context considerations, Options for evaluating, Probe deeply, and Evaluate your evaluation, to the SSH domain. The guidance addresses the distinct challenges SSH faces in research assessment, including methodological diversity, the prevalence of books and multilingual publications, and the limitations of traditional bibliometric indicators. It emphasises value-led rather than data-driven assessment, the recognition of diverse scholarly outputs and activities, and the importance of embedding Open Science principles into evaluation systems. PhD Thesis Title: Academic Libraries as Infrastructures: exploring the shifting roles of libraries in the current developments of Open Science Summary This doctoral research examines the role, responsibilities, and future directions of the academic library as an infrastructure within the emerging field of Open Science, with a particular focus on developments across the European Union. While academic libraries have long supported Open Access and Research Data Management, the study argues that Open Science is a broader, holistic concept, and that libraries' engagement with its wider set of practices, in relation to research assessment reform and the transformation of research culture, remains under-explored. The thesis aims to explore the following: a) how the maturity of Open Science initiatives in academic libraries varies across EU regions; b) how libraries can evolve to foster an Open Science research culture; c) what the financial implications and sustainability challenges for libraries are, as well as what skills and competencies librarians need. The study aims to deliver a theoretical framework and a practical roadmap enabling academic libraries to develop and sustain Open Science services beyond Open Access and data management.

The EU-funded project LUMEN (https://lumenproject.eu/) aims to advance cross-domain collaboration and discovery processes, enhancing the Findability and Interoperability of SSH data. The goal is to connect diverse scientific fields (SSH, Mathematics, Earth System Sciences, and Molecular Dynamics) through a Federation of platforms (that includes GoTriple) and enable researchers to collaborate and access data from multiple disciplines. LUMEN adopts a Data Mesh approach in which each community retains ownership of its data and publishes governed Data Products under explicit Data Contracts, ensuring transparent governance and interoperability across domains. Key challenges reside in governance across autonomous communities, semantic alignment between vocabularies that were never designed to interoperate, and the structural asymmetries in how different domains document and share their research outputs. To address them, LUMEN develops a set of core components. The Meta-Search provides cross-domain discovery across all federated platforms. LUMIS offers an integrated environment for building, testing and reusing semantic artefacts that enable alignment across domains. GoTriple's unique value lies not in SSH content alone but in its multilingual processing pipeline, semantic enrichment capabilities, and an architecture that already supports domain-agnostic deployment. These are the assets that a White Label solution, also produced in LUMEN, will make available to other domains. It will allow any scientific community to adapt GoTriple’s core technologies, fostering an interdisciplinary ecosystem where SSH insights are seamlessly accessible to other domains. Advanced tools such as AIDA, an AI-Driven Discovery Assistant, will transform research discovery from simple keyword searches into natural language conversations. The panel will dive into questions such as: How can these outcomes improve SSH data findability? Why is SSH data valuable for other domains such as Earth System Sciences?
